Oppo Reno 13 Pro Review: Exploring the Design and Features

For Oppo Reno 13 Pro, the Reno series has been one of their flagship lines. Differed by new competition, the Find X8 series. The place has been on high for camera quality and stylish design for the Reno users. That helped them enjoy pro-level photography without breaking the bank. But more than that, some of these Reno smartphones were a little wanting in performance.

Now is the time for change, and this change is coming with the launch of the Oppo Reno 13 series: Oppo Reno 13 and Oppo Reno 13 Pro. Coming in 2025 to make its mark, this Reno 13 Pro will add up to design, performance, and camera capabilities packed inside a complete AI-feature shot contender for the mid-premium industry.

Pricing the Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G at INR 49,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant and INR 54,999 for the 12GB + 512GB variant positions it admirably in the competitive mid-premium segment, which is led a lot at the moment by brands like OnePlus and iQOO.The real question is if the Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G could stand its ground as a value proposition in such competition. Without further ado, let us take a look at this comprehensive review.

Oppo Reno 13 Pro plus 5G Design

Oppo has focused on the design of their smartphones, particularly with the Reno series. The newest model from the brand features an impressively sleek profile of a mere 7.55 mm in thickness, weighing just 195 grams, making it one of the lightest options available on the market. For the first time, the company introduces an aerospace-grade aluminum frame, which marks as a notable improvement from the earlier models.

If that’s not enough, two phenomenal color options exist. If you love a subtle, understated aesthetic, then the Graphite Grey is right up your alley. On the other hand, if you want something a little more colorful, the Mist Lavender option is eye-catching. That was what I chose to review, and it is gorgeous.

In sunlight, the one-piece sculpted-glass rear panel plays host to that distinctive butterfly effect that shines brightly, resulting in a most unique finish. The front adopts a micro-curved screen that is comfortable to hold and avoids any sharp edges. The camera module is flatter than that of the Reno 12 Pro, although it will still wobble somewhat when placed on a table. One thing worth noting is that the phone can be rather slippery, so it would be wise to cover up that beauty.

The volume and power buttons are easily accessible, and they provide solid feedback, which I find nice. Once again, the phone’s IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings are truly amazing. This means that you could put it in 2 meters of water for about half an hour without any risk. Finally, confirming its high-tech credentials, this model even includes underwater shooting modes that let you take great photos and videos underwater (we’ll explore more on this in the camera section).

Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G proudly offers a fairly sleek flat-frame design that, along with slightly curved edges on the display, increases interaction with the device. Its four-sided micro-curved screen is so close to the viewer that it creates an almost borderless view, contributing to a show-stealing screen-to-body ratio.

The AMOLED display is simply one of the best in this price range, especially with its 1.5K resolution. The device defaults to the Full HD mode, but more could be grabbed via Settings > Display > Screen Resolution. For personalized viewing, there are three varieties of color modes-Natural,-Pro and  -Vivid.

Having a Pro mode meant natural color reproduction, while Vivid mode gave the colours a punch to stand out more. The 120Hz refresh rate was smooth-sailing for scrolling content. It is also certified for the Seamless Eye Protection by SGS, keeping it comfortable for long hours of viewing.

The screen excels in delivering crisp graphics and colour so impressive one may shed a tear. For me, Squid Games Season 2 left me smiling with super bright colours, complemented by deep blacks that heighten the whole experience. On the other hand, Fire Force did have an excellent colour balance, allowing for some good dynamic range. The viewing angles are awesome, while sunlight visibility could use upgrading in peak brightness to about 1,200 nits.

This display will never ruin a binge. I had this minor bug where the color temperature shifts whilst adjusting volume levels, but an Oppo rep assured me it’s a bug being fixed with the next update.

The phone also has a quick and reliable in-display fingerprint sensor. Audio performance is good thanks to its stereo speakers that deliver decent audio output.

The Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G has color colorOS 15, based on Android 15. Overall, the clean UI wears strange styles on one hand, while on the other, it collects some pre-installed apps.

Other interesting features are the File Dock, where one can drag and drop between applications, with easy access to different applications and some AI tools. The customization options are myriad, and one can modify themes, texts, text sizes, icons, and much more to his taste.

However, there is quite a lot of bloatware. There are noticeably more pre-installed apps than in the previous version; fortunately, most can be uninstalled. Plus, you will find the usual sections for Hot Games and Hot Apps, where various apps and games are advertised. This clutters the user interface somewhat, and at times, it can seem a bit frustrating.

This camera layout called Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G much resembles with Reno 12 Pro before. One still has the same telephoto and ultra-wide-angle lenses to play with. There are upgrades though; the previous model had a Sony LYT-600, while the IMX890 sensor is in charge this time, which is an upgrade of sorts.

On a bright note, under daylight shots, sharp image taken by the main sensor had great contrast and dynamic range. The main sensor, however, did show slightly warm color toning, which can be recommended for straight.

I could really tell you great things about the telephoto lens during testing. It did capture crisp details during bright sun, and colors were mostly true to life. The 3.5x zoom is particularly handy for preserving clarity when snapping photos of distant subjects without necessarily having to wander closer. Getting portraits is also fun at that zoom level.

Unfortunately, the ultra-wide was subpar, the soft images therein would just leave you wanting more dynamic ranges.

In low light, the Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G holds its own, producing relatively clean shots that contain a modicum of noise. In moonlight or other low-light situations, the primary camera is way ahead of the other competitors in comparison, capturing details not possible in sequences lit up brightly.

Still, there were instances of over-sharpening, leading to some loss of overall detail. The Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G telephoto lens did great on some occasions, but there was some letdown from the ultra-wide, with most pictures being either soft-focus-mummyish or plain bad.

As far as self-portraits go, they look splendid as the skin tones and color pretty well handled for the phone. Very commendable portraits were taken, with nice edge quality detection. Selfies stay well together during low-lighting conditions, though grain is apparent under the cover of darkness.

Oppo Reno 13 Pro performance Test

The Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G ushers in a new age as the first phone on Indian soil to be equipped with the coveted MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor. This chipset gives a bit more benefit from the predecessor, the apparent Dimensity 8300. This is mainly owing to a new gaming engine, StarSpeed, which is claimed to be faster than the HyperEngine of the preceding Dimensity versions. I carried out synthetic benchmark tests with results clearly indicating a noticeable boost from the Reno 12 Pro, which are represented in the table below:

In day-to-day use, this device runs fluently, delivering a smudge-free and snappy experience. Be it scrolling through Reels, watching Youtube videos, or intensive multitasking, the Oppo Reno 13 Pro has no stuttering or freezing issue whatsoever.

In gaming, the Oppo Reno 13 Pro handled everything, from casual to more-power-hungry titles, pretty well. I was able to play Call of Duty: Mobile on very high graphics settings, tapped to maximum frame rates, and played a smooth 60 fps all along. Genshin Impact also played just as smoothly at high graphics with a locked frame rate of 30 fps. Still, there was a hint of warmth around the rear camera module during lengthy players, evident also when the sustained testing was performed with Antutu V10.

Smoother, more agile gaming, and the latest AI capabilities, all enabled by this custom 4nm chip with octa-core processor, jointly fine-tuned by MediaTek and OPPO. Plus, large RAM and ROM nix any performance or storage worries.

Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G AI Features

  • Productivity AI Features – AI Summary, AI Writer, AI Speak, AI Recording
  • Camera AI Features – AI Reflection Remover, AI Unblur, and more

Similar to its predecessor, the Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G has been loaded with a host of AI features, most of which are dependent on internet connectivity. This phone amalgamates productivity and camera features into daily tasks.

To be precise, it brings AI Writer, which creates captions for social media sharing so that bay to express ideas could become easy. Another one is AI Summary, which condenses articles and documents into key bullet points that are beneficial in getting an overview during meetings or research work.

You also get AI Speak, which reads the text that shows on your display, adding another feather to the hat of hands-free convenience. Next, AI Recording Summary captures and summarizes the details of meetings, interviews, or voice notes.

Talking about photography, this device employs a few camera-centric AI features from the Find X8 series. Notably, the AI Reflection Remover, which aims to eliminate reflections occurring in photographs taken through glass. In this case, it seems to work well but sometimes struggles with certain reflections.

Another AI Unblur is supposed to reduce the blur in photographs, although its performance often varies. AI Eraser 2.0 wants to remove distracting background detail from the scene with Smart Lasso, Paint Over, and Remove People making it especially helpful peeking away unwanted figures in your shots.

Oppo has finally brought in AI Studio with newer features; AI Portrait, AI Reimage, and AI Motion. Many love the AI Reimage, as it turns regular photos into glimmering works ready for social media. AI Motion brings still pictures to life, yet it has been met with some specific rules that sometimes make this feature a bit tricky to work about.

The Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G comes with exceptionally upgraded features of a long battery life. It is fitted with a robust 5,800mAh battery, compared to the 5,000mAh battery of its predecessor, the Reno 12 Pro. Moderate users can expect it to serve them well for almost two days. Heavy users will find the phone easily giving just over one day of battery life with, say, their emails, some binge-watching of the latest on Netflix, some music listening on the go, some easy scrolling of Instagram, and a little photo-editing.

The performance of Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G in the HD battery loop test was very impressive: it gave an extraordinary 26 hours and 10 minutes of longevity. When it comes to charging, the included 80W fast charger boosts the turbo juice up to 36 percent charge in just 15 minutes, 70 percent in 30 minutes, and completely in 50 minutes.

Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G Verdict

The Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G is a noticeable improvement over the Reno 12 Pro. With new aesthetics around the design and build quality, it clearly distinguishes itself from previous models in the Reno series. The display is sharp and has vibrant colors, adding an even better quality of streaming. Overall, updates in performance set this device fairly equal to other competition.

Some shooters churn out some good quality but are plagued by inconsistent colors across different sensors. Fortunately, however, Oppo is challenging this problem head-on, and revive his hopes from their efforts to resolve the situation in later updates. Regarding Carpenter, the OnePlus 13R and iQOO 13 are tough competitors to the Oppo Reno 13 Pro, both of which do not fail to impress with their magnificent performance.
