Honor Magic 7 Pro Introduction

Let’s start with a brief introduction. Honor Magic 6 Pro is currently the highest place on our Top Phones list and has a scores of 8.1. Naturally, we were excited to find out what improvements the successor to this model would add to the already excellent phone.

The Honor Magic 7 Pro was officially launched in China on October 30th, and it was launched worldwide on January 15th. Although there are some improvements to the camera and hardware system, we’d suggest that the Honor Magic 7 Pro is more of an evolution rather than it is a revolutionary change.

This strategy is sensible in light of how well-rounded and rounded the previous model was. But is this a step forward to be able to compete with the biggest players in the field? Can Honor Magic 7 Pro become the Android flagship that is hard to beat? Let’s discover!

Dimensions and Weight

  • Height – 162.7 mm
  • Width – 77.1 mm
  • Depth – 8.8 mm
  • Weight – Approx. 223 g (including the battery)

The actual dimensions/weight may vary depending on the configuration, manufacturing process, and measurement method.

Honor Magic 7 Pro Design and Display

  • Size – 6.8 inches

With a rounded corners design on the display, the diagonal length of the screen is 6.8 inches when measured according to the standard rectangle (the actual viewable area is slightly smaller).

Following that the Galaxy Note Edge started the trend of curved displays exactly 10 years back, today the market has come full circle. Its successor, the S25 Ultra is expected to come with a more flatter screen and a majority of non-Chinese flagship phones have already switched to flat screens. Honor Magic 7 Pro is the latest model to follow this trend. It will be released soon after the unveiling of OnePlus 13, which boasts the most flat screen.

We are pleased with this development since flat screens are much more user-friendly and are less brittle than their curvaceous counterparts. This Honor Magic 7 Pro’s broader screen has led to an slight increase in size compared to the previous model: 77.1 mm versus 75.8 millimeters.

The metamorphosis is one the most important design and display improvements in the Honor Magic 7 Pro, since it is the Honor Magic 7 Pro largely follows the same pattern as its predecessor that was a huge success. But the sides and the back have changed the frame shape, making it more spacious and more an angular.

The camera housing and the camera housing, the Honor Magic 7 Pro retains the distinctive Jade Cong design of its predecessor, which is a circular unit inside a square, with round edges. The style is more subtle and has four camera openings instead three. One of them features a depth sensor. It’s that is added as a full-size camera circle to create symmetry. we actually like the new style more.

The front of the display is a cutout in the shape of a pill is home to the camera for selfies as well as an 3D ToF sensor that is responsible for the facial recognition feature that is similar to FaceID. Honor utilizes its own NanoCrystal Shield to protect both the back glass and display. The NanoCrystal Shield is akin as Corning’s Gorilla Glass, but the company boasts 10 times more drop resistance than standard glass (we aren’t yet able to conduct drop tests on our test bench).

The most notable change that is worth mentioning concerns the IP rating. It is now IP69. Honor Magic 7 Pro now includes IP69 dust and water resistance. Alongside the normal 1.5-meter submersion in freshwater it also has the ability to stand up to high-temperature and high-pressure water jets, making it safe for places like hot springs and saunas.

For the specs of the display, they closely match those of the earlier generation. Its 6.8-inch OLED LTPO panel supports a dynamic refresh rate of 120 Hz, FHD+ resolution as well as an alleged peak brightness of 5,000nits. Let’s take a look at the tests.

  • Color – 1.07 billion colors
  • Type – OLED
  • Resolution – FHD+ 1280 x 2800

With a rounded corners design on the display, the resolution of the screen is 1280 x 2800 Pixels when measured according to the standard rectangle (the actual viewable area is slightly smaller).

  • Gestures – Supported

Screen Glass Material – HONOR NanoCrystal Shield

It is important to look at this new APL 20 percent field first in our table. The APL (Average Picture Level) determines what proportion of the display’s pixels are completely illuminated. We concluded that 100% APL was not realistic for real-world conditions and shifted to an more realistic 20% APL test. In the above graph it’s evident that Honor restricts brightness to the limit of a certain APL in order to guarantee uniformity across various situations.

The scores of about 1,500 nits for 100% and 20 APL shows that the brightness stays consistent even at lower levels of APL. Although it’s not the most bright display we’ve ever tested but it’s certainly bright. The minimum brightness may be lower however on the bright aspect, color accuracy is superb and the default setting for color temperature.

Overall the display is sharp bright, vibrant, and vivid enough to be suitable for outdoor use. There’s nothing to complain about and it’s no surprise that smartphone display technology has advanced to the point that the mid-range models have stunning OLED displays.

Its Eye Comfort suite baked into the Honor Magic 7 Pro deserves some words here. It seems that eye health is an important consideration in China which is where people are especially concerned about the health about their eyes. These options have made it into the world versions of phones and some are fascinating.

Circular Polarized Display Technology softens the light on screen by shifting it from circular to linear Polarization, emulating natural light that comes from the point-like source. Another interesting feature is AI Defocus which simulates the effect of lenses that defocus by altering specific content on the screen and directing images slightly the direction to the retina. This could help in myopia (short-sightedness) conditions, and could also aid in preventing them.

These are highly specific and difficult to test under the lab and in real-world situations. However, any effort that focuses on the health of your eyes in a world where people spend hours staring at your phone long periods of time is welcomed by us.

Biometrics are worthy of a separate article here, because Honor Magic 7 Pro Honor Magic 7 Pro features advanced 3D facial scanning technology that is comparable to what the iPhone comes with. In addition, it switches into an ultrasonic fingerprint reader beneath the screen, similar to the newest Galaxy models. Both are extremely reliable They’re quick and precise and there’s nothing to complain about with this one either.

The actual image resolution may vary depending on the shooting mode. The highest pixel requires entering the “HIGH-RES” mode for experience, please refer to the actual experience.

The Honor Magic 7 Pro packs three cameras, with a combined resolution of 300 MP. It features a 50 MP main camera with a huge 1/1.3″ Super Dynamic HONOR Falcon Camera H9000 HDR sensor — most probably a rebranded unit of the familiar from the previous generation OmniVision OV50H sensor.

Also part of the package is a 50 MP ultrawide sensor, followed by a beefy, 200 MP 1/1.4-inch telephoto sensor. It uses the same telephoto sensor as the telephoto module on Vivo X100 Ultra, the 1/1.4-inch Samsung S5KHP9.

A power AI-based software post-processing that is dubbed AI Honor Image Engine 3.0. These enhancements are made through machine learning algorithms that are optimized for portrait modifications, manipulation of light and shadow, snapshot enhancement and telephoto tuning.

  • Video Shooting – Support for 4K 60fps (3840×2160) video recording
  • Zoom Mode – 3x Optical Zoom, 100x Digital Zoom
  • Image Resolution – 16384 x 12288 pixels

The actual image resolution may vary depending on the shooting mode.

It is then split into different specialized models — the Light and Shadow Portrait Large Model, Telephoto Enhancement Large Model, Capture Enhancement Large Model, etc. — to take care of its respective parts of the Honor Magic 7 Pro’s camera capabilities. The Harcourt Portrait mode is also included for enhancing portrait shots.

Honor Magic 7 Pro review

But although these specifications and tech specs look good on paper, photographs in the wild blow our minds. So let’s look at a few examples.

Of course, because the regular and ultrawide sensors are the same as the previous gen in the Honor Magic 7 Pro, the results are more or less the same, with or without the new and improved AIs. The main camera in particular can take high-quality photos, and most of the time pretty decent ones even in low light. There is a full-res raw mode too, where all 50 megapixels of the sensor get to work. Colors do not pop too much, and the sharpness is decent as well.

Night shots are noteworthy, with realistic colors and balanced contrast that shuns laundered, overcooked shades. Light sources might produce halos every now and then, but the general looking is similar to what we were seeing.

The ultrawide camera also does a decent job. The other 50MP sensor gives decent detail too. One strength and area in which some phones fail is color tone consistency between the primary and ultrawide cameras, with resulting images from the two sensors being uniform. It has a wide angle of view, which can create optical artifacts near the edges of the frame. The algorithms do a good job of mitigating those distortions.

  • Video Resolution – 3840 × 2160 pixels

The actual video resolution may vary depending on the shooting mode.

  • Rear Flashlight – Rear single LED flash

Honor Magic 7 Pro claims a new purely pixel-centric 200MP telephoto camera — the most pixel-dense camera in the industry alongside the Vivo X200 Pro. This sensor is paired with a periscope lens system giving it a 69 mm focal length which gives it 3X optical zoom. The high pixel count means that the Honor Magic 7 Pro can do 2X crops off of the telephoto camera, for a total combined magnification of 6X (138 mm).

The new SuperZoom AI feature also makes digital zoom between 30X and 100X much better, while the telephoto camera is really versatile too: the 3X optical zoom works great for portraits and close-ups, while the 6X crop-and-zoom is great for wildlife photos. (This isn’t strictly “wild”—there was food involved, of course, but the solution should for sure work with wild animals too!)

  • Video Resolution – 3840 × 2160 pixels

The actual video resolution may vary depending on the shooting mode.

  • Video Shooting – Support for 4K (3840×2160) video recording

The actual image resolution may vary depending on the video recording mode.

It also results in a slight downgrade from the last gen, with video resolution maxing out at 4K at 60 frames per second, but it should still be sufficient for the vast majority of scenarios. Video quality is generally pretty good, with better image stabilization and improved dynamic range compared to the last model, mainly in low light.

Honor Magic 7 Pro review

Honor led the way with silicon-carbon battery tech as it was the first company to do so outside China with the Magic 6 Pro (the Honor Magic 5 Pro was the first phone to have this tech, although it only appeared in the Chinese version, possibly due to EU legislation regarding batteries). The Honor Magic 7 Pro now has third-generation silicon-carbon battery tech built, but there is some bad news.

A 5,850mAh battery was used for the model in China, with the global version getting a notably smaller 5,270mAh battery. This mismatch is probably a result of stricter EU rules on battery safety, but it’s disappointing all the same. The 5,270mAh capacity is little compared to the modern flagships what carry this technology and beleive me, newer 6,000mAh batteries are on the trending line (the OnePlus 13 is an example of this).

That said, we shouldn’t judge a book (or battery) by its cover (or capacity) so let’s get into a few real world tests here.

Honor Magic 7 Pro Performance & Benchmarks

The Honor Magic 7 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s much-anticipated and recently announced Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, as anticipated. It’s been compared to Apple’s new A18 Pro silicon, and the major highlight is that Qualcomm’s latest chip is competitive with it in certain benchmarks with a few others being favorable to the A18.

We’ve long evolved to a point now where even midrange chips feel plenty-fast to most users, but synthetic benchmarks still very much matter to the more geeky among us in the tech community. Here are the benchmark numbers for the Honor Magic 7 Pro.

Well, there you have it! The Snapdragon 8 Elite is a monster. It’s extremely close to the A18 Pro in single-core performance and completely destroys Apple’s silicon in multicore and 3D benchmarks. The major downside, however, is that the Magic 7 Pro throttles quite a lot in intensive 3D workloads, likely due to the excessive heat, as the phone becomes noticeably hot during the 3DMark Wildlife Extreme stress test.

As far as RAM and storage goes, the Honor Magic 7 Pro will be offered with one memory configuration (at least in Europe) — 12GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. Other configurations, like 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, may be available at a later date. For now, however, this is your only option. Predictably, there’s no microSD card slot, but in 2025, that’s hardly a shock.

Honor Magic 7 Pro Software

Out of box, the phone comes with Android 15 and MagicOS 9.0 which does offer some interesting UI enhancements. Artificial intelligence has been a major talking point in the smartphone world for a while now, and the Honor Magic 7 Pro gets on that bandwagon. Some AI elements in the last model were surprisingly useful, and Honor has further refined those baked-in elements to create an even smoother experience.

It has been enhanced with features like Magic Portal (context-based text and image search), Circle to Search, and many more. Now, when you select text or an area of an image, the feature automatically slides out from the side of the screen — like, you still don’t have to drag-and-drop the content into the app you want to share it with, as you previously had to. It’s a minor but well-considered improvement that brings a bit more fluidity to the process.

Other A.I. features replicate what many rivals are doing now. For instance, AI-centric Notes App summarizes, transcribes, and translates in different modes, reformats text or presentations, offers writing help, and more. AI photo-editing tools are also baked into MagicOS 9.0, such as AI Eraser and AI Cutout, featuring which are quite self-explanatory.

Honor Magic 7 Pro review

One standout feature is eye-tracking assistive eye-gaze control. Other companies, including Google and LG, have tried their hands at this technology in the past (and failed), but Honor’s approach feels more practical and frankly useful. You can train the phone to know precisely where you’re looking on-screen, allowing for hands-free interactions like opening pop-up notifications. The use cases for this feature area are still limited (somewhat), but it does a fantastic job and has a lot of potential.

Now, the Honor Magic 7 Pro will get five years of major OS updates and six years of security patches.

Honor Magic 7 Pro Audio Quality and Haptics

Honor Magic 6 Pro also came with an amazing stereo speaker system. It was easily the best phone we’d heard, putting gaming phones and other flagships in the dust. The Magic 7 Pro has a top-notch audio system, possibly among the best. The stereo speakers get loud enough to be comparable to a dedicated Bluetooth speaker.

Audio quality is just as good, with virtually no harmonic distortion at max volume. The bass too is impressive considering the size of the phone. It raises the question of whether Honor has included the separate subwoofer found in the RSR edition though there’s no mention of whether the special bass cavity is a feature of the standard Magic 7 Pro.

Still, this is one of the loudest and most potent-sounding phones we’ve tested, so thanks to Honor for pulling this off and sustaining this audio quality. There’s no 3.5 mm headphone jack as expected, so you’ll have to use wireless headphones or an adapter for wired ones.

As for your haptics, the vibration feedback is firm, pronounced, and sharp. It’s not the most advanced haptic system around, but it works, and you can feel it through the phone’s body.

Should you buy it?

It’s time for some hard questions — and even harder answers. The Honor Magic 7 Pro is an undeniably great Android flagship. It follows in the footsteps of the Magic 6 Pro, which improves the chipset, telephoto camera, and packs in even more AI features. It also introduces some very cool eye protection technology to the world stage.

The flat screen is a nice upgrade as is the symmetrical camera housing Overall, the Magic series design has matured into something that recognizable, comfortable and stylish at the same time.

All that said, the €1,299 starting price on this phone could still be its biggest drawback — especially when even the iPhone 16 Pro Max costs less. For many of those, at this price point, a step toward less familiar territory, away from brands they know better, might be a hard sell. This leaves the Honor Magic 7 Pro facing the same uphill struggle as its predecessors: challenging not-necessarily better, but better-known, often cheaper, rivals.

It’s a tough nut to crack.

Pros of Honor Magic 7 Pro

Immersive Viewing Experience: The Honor Magic 7 Pro offers a stunning AMOLED display and high refresh rate for quality media consumption and gaming.

Performance that Packs a Punch: The device is powered by a top-end processor for smooth multitasking and performance efficiency, capable of powering demanding applications.

Cons of Honor Magic 7 Pro

Few Software Updates: It may receive fewer software updates than its competitors, which could impact long-term usability and security.

No IP Rating: Absence of an official IP rating for water and dust resistance may discourage users who need durability in different conditions.

Weighty Design: The device can be quite bulky or heavy in hand, which can be uncomfortable for long use or carrying in pockets.

Price Tag: The high price point could be a turnoff for budget-minded customers seeking budget options with similar features.

Bloatware Concerns: Pre-installed apps that certain users see as redundant, or a nuisance, could lead to a bloated user experience which negatively impacts performance.
